American Single Malt Whiskey: A Guided Tasting & Workshop Friday, November 20, 2026

American Single Malt Whiskey was officially recognized as a distinct category of American whiskey in January 2025, establishing production standards for a growing segment of the American whiskey industry.

Join Silver Brothers founder Matt Greitzer and guest expert Dennis Nesel from Hudson Valley Malt for a small-group workshop exploring what defines American Single Malt Whiskey, why the new designation matters, and how the category compares with the established traditions of Scotch single malt whisky.

Matt will discuss the production standards and take a closer look at how we make American Single Malt at Silver Brothers, using barley grown on our farm in Old Chatham. Dennis will explain the malting process—how harvested barley is transformed into malt suitable for whiskey production—and its influence on the character of the finished spirit.

The workshop includes a guided tasting of three different expressions of American Single Malt Whiskey, including samples not currently available as bottled releases. The tasting will examine how choices in barley varietals, new versus used oak barrels, and barrel finishing can influence the character of the finished whiskey.

With a small group, there will be plenty of opportunity for questions, discussion, and a closer look at the decisions involved in making American Single Malt Whiskey.

The workshop will take place at the Silver Brothers distillery and tasting room in Old Chatham. Limited to 12 participants. $50 per person. Purchase Tickets
